You are likely aware that brushing your teeth twice a day is recommended by the American Dental Association. As is flossing daily.
But for some—they are not doing this. And for others, they are, but it may not be enough.
And even if you are seeing your dentist for your cleaning and dental exam twice annually, your oral care at home plays a big role in keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

At-home dental care
Having good dental care habits at home can go a long way in keeping your mouth, teeth and gums free of disease and at optimum health and wellness.
And while it is key to have your professional dental cleaning as scheduled, it is wise to brush up on your dental care at home.
This begins with brushing for two minutes, twice a day at minimum. Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and brush in small circles, taking care to reach all sides of the teeth. And remember to change your brush every three months or sooner.
Follow brushing by flossing at least once a day. Rinsing your mouth with a fluoride mouthwash approved by the ADA can also help keep your oral health up to par.
Eating a healthy diet keeps not only your body healthy, but also your mouth! So, nosh on a wide variety of veggies and low-sugar fruit, and try to avoid unnecessary sugar (like soda, energy drinks and candy), which can wreak havoc on teeth.
