When it comes to optimum oral health, brushing your teeth is simply non-negotiable! And, as you likely know, you should be brushing your teeth twice a day at minimum.
However, with the wide variety of toothbrushes out there – from electric to soft-bristled to hard-bristled and more – it can be confusing as to which toothbrush to use. We have some tips!
Keep reading to learn more.
Choosing a toothbrush
From soft to medium to hard, a key rule is that the softer the bristles the better when choosing a toothbrush.
Some assume harder bristles will clean better but, truth be told, hard bristles can have a negative impact on gums and teeth by harming enamel and hurting the gums. Further, some people avoid brushing the area where the teeth and the gums meet when they use a hard-bristled brush because it can be uncomfortable. But this area is essential to clean when brushing.
When considering electric toothbrushes, it’s important to understand that even with an electric device, you still should be brushing for two minutes twice a day. Some mistakenly believe they can cut down on brush time with an electric brush but that is not so.
In terms of toothbrush head shape and handle design, that is more so up to personal preference. Many people enjoy a non-slip grip for ease of use. But this is purely preferential.
And don’t forget to store your brush upright in a well-aired space to dry out and change your toothbrush at least every three months.
