When it comes to dental health, you may not think about it much other you’re your bi-annual oral exam and cleaning.
But the truth is, your oral health is key to not only a beautiful and healthy smile, but to your body’s health…and taking it seriously is a smart move.
Sometimes, situations or out-of-the-ordinary things occur on the teeth and gums, and you may be unsure if you should call your dentist or not.
Here are three situations when you should, in fact, call us right away.
When to call the dentist
Despite taking measures to prevent a tooth emergency, dental emergencies can occur no matter how careful you are. And other times, an odd tooth or mouth situation occurs out of seemingly nowhere.
Either way, here are three instances in which you should contact our office right away.
Tooth pain that is severe
If you are experiencing pain in one or more teeth that is persistent and not relieved by over-the-counter pain medication, you should give us a call. This could indicate an exposed nerve of the tooth or even a serious infection that is capable of spreading. This situation should have immediate dental attention to remedy it before it becomes a bigger issue.
A tooth that is knocked out
Whether by an accident or contact sport, a tooth that gets knocked out is another situation when you should call us right away. In this instance, it is crucial to be quick. Until you are able to get to us, place the knocked out tooth in milk (if you still have the tooth) until you get here – as this is the best way to save/preserve it.
Damaged restorations
When you have a broken filling or crown or broken dentures, while it may not always qualify as an emergency, it is still key to see us as soon as possible so that it can be remedied. These things can cause trouble with eating as well as causing pain.
