Two minutes, twice a day
Brushing your teeth for the adequate amount of time is key to your oral health. Brushing twice daily (and don’t forget to floss daily!) helps remove plaque, stop tooth decay and stave off gum disease.
Brushing for two minutes ensures that you remove all build up and food that can cause bacteria. Tartar causes tooth decay and when you don’t brush long enough to remove it, you put your dental health at risk.
Further, brushing helps to strengthen the enamel of the teeth. This also helps to lessen the risk of tooth decay. When cavities continue to progress, it can cause the area around the teeth to swell. And when teeth aren’t in their best shape, it can also cause tooth pain and even broken teeth and abscesses. This can be dangerous and even cause infections that can become life threatening.
Plus, when you brush well, you ensure healthy gums and even fresher breath.
If you’re unsure if you’re brushing long enough, you can set a timer on your phone for two minutes to be sure…two minutes is longer than it seems!
